Fontcuberta Deletrix

None

The Deletrix series embodies a desire to register direct examples of censorship on written texts and from surprise at the new forms that the act of scoring out, deleting or effacing inscribe on the text. In censored texts of past centuries in libraries in different part of the world Fontcuberta has found the clearest examples of this violence inflicted on the documents, the texts that make up our cultural tradition. It is highly significant, then, that images of censored pages of a Latin edition of Erasmus’s Adagia, published in Basel in 1541 and now in the Historical Library of the University of Salamanca, should form the first part of the Deletrix series, commenced in 2006.
